The UNB Reds’ two-year reign as Canadian university men’s hockey champions came to an end at the 2025 University Cup after a 3-2 overtime loss to the host Ottawa Gee-Gees.

The UNB Reds fell 2-0 to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in the quarter-finals of the U Sports Women’s Hockey Championship Friday night in Elmira, Ont. Despite a strong start, the Reds were outshot 39-13, with goalie Cassie McCallum making 37 saves and earning player of the game honors. First-year defender Lilly Bell praised McCallum’s performance, calling it "unreal." The Reds now move to the consolation bracket and will face the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday at 2 p.m. Atlantic.
