Tariq Ali on the Fragility of Western Civilization 

The 27th annual Dr. Abdul Lohdi lecture took place at St. Thomas University at 7 p.m. on February 4, 2025. Delivered by public intellectual, novelist, and historian Tariq Ali, the event commanded a full house. The event utilized STU’s resources to fulfill Dr. Lohdi’s vision toward racial tolerance, broadens students’ horizons, and fosters understanding between peoples via distinguished speakers and lectures.

The Art of Protest

Cyr begins the song by acknowledging that UNB students have been paying a large amount of tuition to attend classes and pursue their education, and that our ‘classrooms [are] built on stolen land.’ Despite UNB’s land acknowledgement — ‘We respectfully acknowledge that UNB stands on the unsurrendered and unceded traditional Wolastoqey land ’—the University maintains what they call a neutral stance on divesting from Israeli companies. Cyr questions the very purpose of education: isn’t it about recognizing right from wrong? By continuing to invest in these companies, are we, UNB, truly neutral — or are we choosing a side?
