(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s volleyball team is adding 5’9” outside hitter and libero Ella Green, of Kelowna, BC, to their recruiting class of 2025.
The 18-year-old Green, who spent the 2024-2025 season with the Capilano University Blues, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Ella’s experience playing post-secondary volleyball immediately stood out to us,” said REDS’ head coach Lauren Hale-Miller. “Her versatility as both an outside hitter and libero demonstrates her well-rounded skill set and adaptability. She’s a physical player who competes hard and that level of intensity is something we value in our program.”
“My sister (Micki) is part of the REDS community, and I often hear about her experiences, and she sounds like she’s having an amazing time while growing as an athlete,” said Green. “I’m truly excited to become part of the team this September.”
In 19 regular season matches with the Blues last season, Green recorded 197 digs, or 2.94 digs per set, helping Capilano to the bronze medal at the Pacific Western Athletic Association championship tournament and earning conference All Rookie Team honours.
Green was previously a long-time member of the Energy Volleyball club, and part of provincial championship gold and silver medal winning teams, and helped the Kelowna Secondary School Owls to a British Columbia title in 2023-2024. Green has also been a member of Team BC’s beach volleyball side at the U19 level.
“I bring a high level of passion and competitiveness, giving my all both on and off the court to contribute to the team’s achievements,” said Green.
Green says her immediate goals will be to establish a strong balance between school and volleyball, so that she can succeed at both. Longer-term, she hopes to continue her development as an athlete.
“We expect Ella to bring her experience and competitiveness into our gym from day one,” said Coach Hale-Miller. “Her ability to perform in different roles at the post-secondary level will add depth to our roster, and we know she’ll push herself and her teammates to be better every day.”
Green will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
