From 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., April 8, 2025, at the Richard J. Currie Centre, Performance Gymnasium, the 2024–2025 Brunswickan Academic Achievement Award was extended to two outstanding student-athletes. Proudly presented by The Brunswickan and the Sports Department of UNB, The Brunswickan Award is given to the graduating athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average after the Fall term to recognize academic excellence and achievement in undergraduate studies.
Since 1991, The Brunswickan Award has been awarded annually—excluding 2021—and signifies not only the importance of high academic standards, but underscores the university’s commitment to holistic student success and the balance of academics and athletics.
This year, the 2025 Brunswickan Award Recipients Cole MacKay and Eric Jean of the men’s swimming team were named co-recipients. The honour of the double Brunswickan Award has occurred rarely, in less than 20% of academic years. MacKay and Jean are the 7th all-time pair of co-recipients of the award, reflecting this year’s UNB Reds’ dedication and excellence to all aspects of university life. With such students and community members, 2025 is becoming a year for the history books!
The Brunswickan’s Editor-in-Chief Joel Rumson presented the awards at the event and congratulated both students for their achievements.
Mackay and Jean were recognized due to their exceptional academic records.
Both student-athletes have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance in coursework, research projects, and community involvement, setting the bar high for future competitors.
