Milton, ON
4th Year Recreation & Sport Studies
Lauren Carter, of the women’s hockey team, is the UNB REDS/Monks & Jonesie female Athlete of the Week.
The fourth year forward was a major contributor as the REDS fought for a fourth straight Atlantic University Sport championship.
In Monday’s 2-1 double-overtime loss to STFX, Carter scored the REDS only goal.
On Wednesday, in a 2-1 regulation loss to the X-Women, she was a factor for UNB from start to finish.
“Lauren was a force all playoffs and scored a highlight reel goal in game one,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She showed sacrifice with the number of shots she blocked and was a warrior for us. We know she’s just getting better and I’m excited to see her on the big stage at the national championship tournament.”
As AUS finalists, Carter and her REDS teammates will be the No. 7 seed at the U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship, in Waterloo, Ontario, March 20-23.

Samuel Richard, of the men’s hockey team, is the UNB REDS/Monks & Jonesie male Athlete of the Week.
The third year goaltender played a critical role as the REDS won their seventh consecutive Atlantic University Sport championship.
In Sunday’s 5-3 win over Moncton, Richard made 17 saves on 20 shots, keeping his team in a game in which the REDS built a 3-0 lead then hung on for the win.
On Tuesday, in the best-of-three series clincher in Moncton, he registered 24 saves on 26 shots as the REDS scored a 3-2 win.
Richard was named the MVP of the AUS playoffs.
“Sam had a tremendous game two and helped us seal the AUS championship,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “His daily commitment to getting better and working on his craft helps him be a key piece in the biggest moments. He made five or six saves in the third period when it mattered most, and once again proves why he is best when it matters the most.”
Richard and his REDS teammates will be the No. 1 seed at the U SPORTS Men’s Hockey Championship, in Ottawa, March 20-23.
