WVB: REDS add veteran blocker/hitter

 The UNB REDS women’s volleyball team is naming middle blocker and opposite hitter Emy Champoux, of Saint-Hyacinthe, QC, to their recruiting class of 2025.

The 20-year-old, who is completing her year at Cégep André-Laurendeau, in Montreal, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-26 Atlantic University Sport season.

Champoux has been a member of the women’s team at André-Laurendeau since January of 2023.

In 2024, she was among several Cégep student-athletes recognized for her leadership.

“I really wanted to continue playing volleyball at a competitive level and I loved the atmosphere and the values of Coach Hale-Miller,” said Champoux. “I’m a versatile player. I have a good work ethic, and I’m disciplined. As a teammate, I will bring positive energy and help the team grow.”

“Emy’s experience at the Cégep level stood out right away,” said REDS’ head coach Lauren Hale-Miller. “It’s provided her with a strong technical foundation and a high level of competitive experience. She understands the game at a high level and the ability to make smart, efficient plays which will be a great asset to our program.”

During the 2024-25 season, Champoux was second on the Boomerangs in total blocks and third in points per set.

“She has the mindset of a player who wants to continue developing, and her commitment to growth will fit well with our team culture,” said Coach Hale-Miller. “Her attitude, work ethic, and willingness to take on challenges will help push both herself and her teammates to a higher standard.”

Champoux says continuing to develop as a blocker and to being the best she can be are among her goals as a RED, as is helping UNB win AUS and national titles.

Champoux will study Psychology will attending UNB.
