“Equality is clothing with a purpose,” say the co-founders of Equality Apparel, a local Moncton brand run by two sisters named Ashley and Emily. “We create aspirational clothing that has a purpose to promote equality for all.” If you’re like me, you have no problem offering up money for a good cause, especially when you’re able to see it work in action.
These young philanthropists have even dedicated lunch hours at school to raise money for their fellow students.
Since Equality’s launch in May 2021, Ashley and Emily have strived to show support for gender equality, racial equality, equality for those with disabilities, and sexual diversity within their community.
Equality has donated over $2200 to different causes in Moncton. Of that, $900 was raised in support of Martine Paquet, a teacher at Moncton High School who is battling stage 4 cancer. Equality sold t-shirts and started an online campaign under the hashtag #miracledemartine.
Last summer, they were also able to sponsor two members of the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton for their Summer Basketball Program.
Equality’s hard work has gained them recognition from Moncton High School. They were the feature of an article by the school titled Passion Projects in June 2021.
The high school wrote: “Their little business is growing and so does their learning. Ashley and Emily have taken on multiple roles within their company: spokesperson, social media, sales, communication, and marketing. They are grateful for the challenge and proud of their product: clothing that is simple and clear as their shared belief: equality.”
