The Bio-Psych program will be introduced, “forthwith,” says Professor Nicole O’Byrne.
O’Byrne is a professor of law at the UNB Faculty of Law, was the MP candidate for the Green Party in Fredericton, and has been pushing for the biopsych program as a member of the UNB Senate.
Dr. Elizabeth Mancke is a professor in UNB’s history faculty and is the Research Chair of Atlantic Canada Studies.
Mancke has worked alongside O’Byrne in the UNB Senate and has been a proponent of introducing the Bio-Psych program.
“The integrity of the curriculum approval process is one of the more important responsibilities faculty share.”
Mancke notes that it is usually a simple process, but the Bio-Psych introduction required more effort.
“Occasionally, something goes awry, and then it becomes important to exercise our oversight responsibility.”
She praises the students who organized themselves in support.
“The Bio-Psych program… was helped enormously by the students who organized themselves.”
In all, Mancke believes that they took the appropriate steps to promote a useful program at UNB.
“A number of us did the homework to understand the issues at stake, we informed others, and we opened the discussion in the Senate. We advocated for the integrity of the process, the quality of the proposal, and the need for the program.”
