Carleton Park received a winter facelift with the addition of a skating loop that is free and open to the public.
On January 22, City of Fredericton’s Department of Recreation, Leisure, and Community Development announced in a tweet, “We’re happy to announce that a new skating loop at Carleton Park is open on Fredericton’s north side. The 500 m long loop is expected to be flooded regularly as part of our existing outdoor rec options.”
The team at Parks & Trees set out to create a fully skateable track around Carleton Park. Fredericton Recreation and Leisure explained who helped make the skating loop possible: “The new loop is truly a collaborative effort across many departments at the City to provide a fun outdoor space for you to enjoy.”
The news was well-received by Frederictonians. There was even anticipation of the celebratory possibilities next holiday season by outfitting the loop with festive lights for all to enjoy.
The loop runs along the North Riverfront Trail (or Union Street) and mirrors the southside green from Cliffe Street to the mouth of the Nashwaak River.
The city asks Frederictonians to bring their helmets and to please follow all current COVID guidelines.
