This past weekend the University of New Brunswick hosted Homecoming 2019. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the first football team here at UNB.

The annual showdown between UNB Fredericton and UNB Saint John took place on Saturday, September 28 at the BMO field. As per usual the UNBF Red Bombers successfully defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves, 48-20.

The UNB Reds had a busy weekend on the road with the men’s and women’s hockey and soccer teams each playing in two away games.

The men’s and women’s soccer teams travelled to Nova Scotia this weekend to play against Dalhousie University on Friday and Saint Mary’s University on Saturday.

The women had a close match with DAL losing by one goal, scored by Danika Lefebvre, for a final score of 1-2. On Saturday, thanks to Abby Sullivan and Danika Lefebvre (2), the women pulled through a 3-0 victory over SMU.

The men faced similar results as they faced a 1-2 defeat against DAL, the goal scored by Grant Takacs. However, they too found success against SMU defeating them 4-1 thanks to Ben Gorringe (2), Keji Adeniyi, and Tristan Nkoghe.

The men’s and women’s hockey were on the road with the men heading to Nova Scotia and the women heading down to the states.

Unfortunately, the women were unsuccessful with their attempts against Maine and Providence this weekend facing 4-2 and 1-0 losses during exhibition play..

The men had slightly better luck managing a 9-3 win over SMU on Friday to kick off their regular season. The first three goals were scored by Kris Bennet, Alexandre Goulet, and Mark Simpson. Following another goal by Matthew Boucher. UNB powered through five more goals in the final period; scored by Goulet (2), Oliver LeBlanc, Bennett, and Mark Rassel.

Their trip to Acadia on Saturday did not go as successfully with the men losing 4-6 to Acadia. The game was all tied up 3-3 after the second period but Acadia pulled ahead by scoring three more in the final period. Goals were scored by Tristan Pomerleau, Mark Rassel, Alexandre Goulet, and Tyler Boland.
