This Year’s NBCCD Student Craft Sale is Here!

NBCCD’s second-year diploma students have been hard at work preparing for this year’s winter craft sale. This is the perfect opportunity for the people of Fredericton to stock up on beautiful holiday gifts with the added benefit of supporting local artists. There will undoubtedly be something for everyone, with an incredible selection of handcrafted mugs, pottery, jewelry, winter accessories, and so many other goodies, which are set at affordable prices. The craft sale will be hosted at the George Fry Gallery, Friday through Sunday this weekend, and will feature many student artists. For the safety of all involved, proof of vaccination will be required.

The students have been refining their work for months in preparation of the event, as this is not only the first opportunity some have had to sell their work, but is also an important part of the learning experience built into NBCCD’s curriculum.

“The craft sale is a combination of two courses — at least it is for textiles. I’m not sure about other studios, but we are working on it through our business class as well as a production class,” said Julian Pyke. “I’m making some hand-woven scarves that I dyed all the yarn myself, along with some screenprinting things like patches and wall hangings. My classmates are making a vast range of things from custom dyed sock blanks to phone pillows.”

When asked about what makes the craft sale so exciting for him, Pyke said, “This will be my first opportunity to sell something I have crafted. The craft sale definitely taught me a lot about myself when it comes to working under pressure and remaining consistent which will really benefit me down the line when I start my own studio practice.”

Pyke has a curated Instagram featuring many of his works and processes @yoink_machine if you’re interested in following. NBCCD also has Instagram accounts dedicated to some of its studios where you can see student work, processes, and much more. They are listed below.
