JOBS

Position: Editor-in-Chief 

Reports to: Board of Directors

Critical Outcome: 

  • Act as the face of the publication while managing day-to-day operations such as editing articles, communicating with employees and contractors, and adhering to the by-laws. 

Key Activities: 

  • Sit as President on the Board of Directors
  • Lead the annual AGM
  • Lead a detailed orientation for all new hires including a review of day-to-day expectations and explanation of the by-laws. 
  • Provide education and guidance to all members of the publication, while providing constructive feedback. 
  • Foster relationships with community leaders, and working in allyship with UNB’s social institution.
  • Ensure that the publication reports on, and critically evaluates, the role played by existing student organizations at the university by responding to critical issues affecting students and encouraging change in the leadership and/or structure of these organizations should they fail to do so. 
  • Act as a signing officer for Brunswickan Publishing Inc.
  • In conjunction with the Business Manager, review contracts and documents to ensure all terms and conditions adhere to the policy of Brunswickan Publishing Inc.
  • Attend and lead staff and Editorial Board meetings
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Office maintenance
  • Some summer responsibilities are required
Skills and Requirements:
  • Must be a student at UNB Fredericton
  • Must have at least 1 year experience in student journalism in an editorial role
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in the English language
  • Tact, judgement, advocacy, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with word processing and keyboarding
  • Time management and scheduling
  • Conflict resolution skills

Position: Managing Editor

Reports to: Board of Directors

Critical outcome:
  • Ensure financial accountability for Brunswickan Publishing Inc.
Key Activities:
  • Sit as a member of the Board of Directors
  • Create a business operation plan, in conjunction with the Editor-in-Chief, to improve the financial performance of the publication
  • Provide guidance to the Board of Directors on the policies of the publication
  • Oversee the financial management of the company
  • Prepare the annual financial reports and financial budgets
  • Act as a signing officer for Brunswickan Publishing Inc.
  • Stand as chief human resource officer
  • In conjunction with the Editor-in-Chief, review contracts and documents to ensure all terms and conditions adhere to the policy of Brunswickan Publishing Inc.
  • Review and approve requests for expenditures within the newspaper’s policies and guidelines 
  • Tender the newspaper for printing prior to the start of the publishing year; liaising with the chosen printer in case of problems
  • Attend staff and Editorial Board meetings
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Office maintenance
  • Some summer responsibilities are required
Skills and Requirements:
  • Must be a student at UNB Fredericton
  • Must be willing to accept fiduciary responsibility
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in the English language
