Forward Mya Headrick, a transfer from Bemidji State University (NCAA Div. 1), will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re beyond excited to welcome Mya to the UNB REDS family,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She’s a talented and driven forward, and brings skill, passion, and a winning mindset to our program.”
The 20-year-old, from the Garden River First Nation, joins the program in which her older sister, Jana, spent two seasons, including the lost 2020-21 season.
In 2024-25, her third at Bemidji State, Headrick recorded one goal and one assist as the Beavers went 6-30-1 (W-L-T) in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
As a junior, she served as one of the Beavers’ alternate captains and was named to the WCHA’s All-Academic Team for a second straight season.
Before attending Bemidji State, Headrick helped the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins win Ontario’s Provincial Women’s Hockey League title in 2022, scoring four goals and seven assists during that season. She was also a member of Team Ontario, helping the province with U16 gold at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games.
“I chose UNB because it’s a great school with an outstanding hockey program and coaching staff,” said Headrick. “It’s a place where I know I can continue to grow as both a player and a person.”
In 2021-22, Headrick’s sister played her final season of U SPORTS eligibility with the REDS after four seasons at the University of Toronto.
“She loved every minute of her experience,” said the younger Headrick. “That made the decision even easier for me.”
“We can’t wait to see her make an impact on and off the ice,” said Coach Hilworth.
Headrick will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
