(HALIFAX, N.S.) On the 10th installment of the integrated women’s and men’s event, the 2025 Bell AUS Basketball Championships, presented by G-Series, set a new record for ticket sales. The 2025 box office results were the best in event history, narrowly topping the 2024 championship which itself had set a new all-time attendance record of over 25,000 attendees—a 25% increase over the 2023 event.
“This continued growth is further evidence that both the event and the conference are on solid footing for the future,” said AUS President and CEO, Phil Currie. “A key factor in this success is the merger of the men’s and women’s tournaments 10 years ago in 2015, which has significantly contributed to the overall increase in both attendance and interest.”
Over the past decade, since the tournaments were first held together, the AUS Basketball Championships have consistently seen growth, especially in the exposure and popularity of the women’s tournament. Attendance has come to steadily exceed 20,000 fans, with both 2024 and 2025 events surpassing 25,000 attendees.
The AUS men’s basketball championships have been held at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax since the late 1970s, and the event has enjoyed consistent community support and growth. It has become a staple in the region, with fans traveling from near and far to participate in this long-standing tradition.
“There are fans who have attended the tournament for over 40 years, with multiple generations of families making it a tradition,” Currie added. “This enduring loyalty, combined with the high level of performance from elite student-athletes, ensures that the AUS Basketball Championships will continue to thrive for years to come.”
With strong growth in attendance and revenue, the AUS Basketball Championships remain one of the most anticipated events in the region, continuing to bring fans together to celebrate excellence in student-athlete performance.
