February 13 — 16, 2025 — Crabbe Mountain in Central Hainesville, New Brunswick, hosts some of the world’s top alpine athletes as Ski NB and Crabbe Mountain present the International Giant Slalom, along with the Men’s and Women’s Slalom races.
Giant Slalom Races: February 13 – 14, 2025
Slalom Races: February 15 – 16, 2025
Fee/race $50 CAD ($35 USD).
Lift ticket/day $46 CAD ($32 USD)
The race, sanctioned by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), will see elite athletes from Canada, the United States, and Europe take on the mountain’s challenging slopes.
As a key stop on the annual FIS race circuit, this event has previously been held in world-class ski destinations like Switzerland and China. For the second year in a row, Crabbe Mountain has secured its place as a premier host, drawing professional racers who are training for major events, including the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
For these elite level competitors, this race is a step toward higher-level competitions such as the Winter Olympics, World Cups, and World Championships.
The Brunswickan asked Annabel Ramsey with UNB’s Ski and Board Club, what they thought about Crabbe Mountain holding the event for the second consecutive time.
“I think the fact that there is only one hill to train [Giant Slalom] at [Crabbe] actually helps build community between race teams, and gives the racers opportunities to connect with other racers and make friends from all over the maritimes. It’s a big week for all the local businesses around the area — all the racers and their families find accommodations at local inns, hotels and Air Bnbs located as close as possible to the mountain.”
They added, “overall I think Giant Slalom skiing has a big role in the Crabbe Mountain race community, it just brings people together from all over the place and makes for a really great time.”
Quinn Fitzpatrick, UNB Alumni and skier summarized their excitement about the event perfectly, saying they thought it “would be wicked.”
One snowboarder, Cody Rideout, shared,
“I think it is an amazing honor to be picked twice in a row for such a high-end competition. It also seems to give Crabbe a good reputation for being very professional and welcoming to all skill levels to come and participate or watch the amazing event. I think it is just awesome for Fredericton because it will bring more tourists to our great city.”
With support from Ski New Brunswick and the City of Fredericton’s Tourism Department, the race is indeed expected to attract ski enthusiasts from near and far, boosting winter tourism in the region.
