On January 10, 2025, two friends, MH Emad, and the other, a UNBF student studying computer science, Azizur Rahman Emon, decided to practice parking at the Brookside Mall parking lot, located at 435 Brookside Dr, Fredericton.
With Emon’s driving-exam on January 14th, the idea came in hopes of preparing and passing the test – of which was just four days away at the time of the incident.
All of a sudden, while practicing in the parking lot, a car rushed in at a high rate of speed, aggressively honking toward Emad and Emon.
At first, Emad stated they had thought they (the honking car) made a mistake, and brushed it off as if it was a simple accident.
Shortly after, Emon noticed that the car from earlier had repositioned itself in a corner of the parking lot.
Not thinking much of it, Emad and Emon continued practicing – backing up, parallel parking, and doing it all over again.
Eventually, after continuing to practice, Eman noticed that the vehicle from earlier, had moved to another corner of the parking lot.
Continuing to honk, and make inappropriate gestures toward the two, Emad began to feel unsafe.
In response, Emon told Emad,
“I think we should do one more (parallel parking) attempt, and after, we can leave.”.
They both agreed.
As Emad began his final attempt, he saw headlights quickly approaching, then looking up, had noticed that the very same car from earlier was now rushing toward them at a high rate of speed.
Emon, sensing the impending danger, began recording the interaction.
At once, the rushing car parked, and one man aggressively bull-rushed Emad’s vehicle, asking questions angrily.
Emad fearfully replied,
“Why are you doing this? We did nothing!?”
All at once, the aggressive male who had rushed the car, replied by smashing the rear window out.
At this point, a second man exited the vehicle, and began beating on Emad’s rear passenger window in an attempt to smash it out.
Emad continued to plea, screaming,
“Help! Help! Help! Help us! Someone Please!”.
But, to the two’s fear, no one answered their calls.
The second man then approached Emad’s side, forcefully opened his car door, and began physically assaulting Emad.
After the physical altercation, the two men and one woman then fled the scene.
Four days later, on January 14th, Emon continued to face trauma brought on by the event. Taking multiple painkillers to relieve his pain, it left him with doubts on whether he could even attend his test or not.
Upon hearing this, and what had happened, Emon’s friends rose to the occasion and pushed him to attend the test – despite what had happened.
Subsequently, Emon successfully passed his exam.
Emad has since collected relevant evidence and filed a police report. But still, the damages inflicted onto Emad’s vehicle remain unresolved.
