Going Beyond Books at the Fredericton Public Library

You don’t have to look far if you’re on the hunt for some free fun in Fredericton.

The Fredericton Public Library (FPL) has been a trusted resource centre for Frederictonians since 1955, providing the city with a place to enjoy thoughtful reading, reflection, study, and even just some good old-fashioned peace and quiet. With a collection of over 150,000 books, magazines, newspapers, documents, CDs, DVDs, and videos to choose from, FPL has supported Frederictonians’ literary aspirations for over 67 years.

But did you know that they have adopted some more physical activities to their ever-expanding collections and services?

At FPL, you can now rent snowshoes for the whole family (a must-try for the 2022 Winter season!). Skateboards made their appearance in June of 2021, and with support from Sun Life Financial, FPL is now proud to offer a state-of-the-art musical instrument lending program. They have ukuleles, guitars, violins, and even keyboards for rent – all for free! Rentals are available for week-long loans; just show your library card at the door and enjoy.

There’s something for everyone at the library. The FPL features accessible collections and services including an impressive selection of audiobooks, described video, braille, DAISY CDs, adaptive computer workstations, and more.

Fun fact: The Fredericton Public Library has a TikTok. Really, it’s @fredlibrary (check it out), and their librarians do their best to make us laugh and even feature mini-tutorials on kid-friendly crafts that are available for pickup (you guessed it, for free!) from the library.

Library Frosti-Crafts will be available from January 20 to February 6.

Head online or to the Fredericton Public Library (COVID-19 permitting), located at 20 Carleton Street, to get your shiny new library card today. FPL is your oyster!
