Carolyn Baldwin is a local yoga instructor who shared with us helpful tips on yoga for times of social distancing. Baldwin explained that working in a fast-paced environment was taking a toll on her, and how she would find peace every time she stepped onto her yoga mat. That feeling of peace was what motivated her to help others. She said practicing yoga allows you to become part of a tight-knit group of like-minded individuals.
“The physical practice of yoga made my body feel more relaxed, open and nimble. My mind benefited from it as well,” expressed Baldwin.
Baldwin explained that yoga deals with the balance of life– whether it is body or mind, light or dark, or good or bad. She mentioned that yoga is truly a lifestyle, and how yoga is more than just physical practice and body movement, but breath, meditation, mindfulness, and personal growth both on and off the mat.
Yoga has some ethical rules, and one of them is called Ahisma or non-harming. This includes not harming others in action or words, but also yourself explained Baldwin.
To help you reduce your stress and anxiety in these times of isolation and uncertainty we share with you some tips from Baldwin that will help you get started on your yoga journey.
