Thoughts from the (Incoming) Arts Editor

Hello Brunswickan readers, my name is Patrick Donovan and I’ll be the Arts Editor here for the 2018-19 academic year. Some of you have perhaps read my work for the Bruns before—mostly pieces about theatre (and some music) reviews, pre-show pieces, interviews, etc. However, believe it or not, my interests are wide-ranging in the arts, lifestyle activities and events around the community.

In the upcoming year, I’m hoping to keep the flow of cultural events and appreciation going and to dispel the myth of the Maritimes not being “cultured” or somehow lacking in awesome opportunities to see art and participate in engaging events. Fredericton is in a unique position, since its size ensures that the people are friendly and personable while having high calibre acts and events that perform at the same level in larger cities.

I really want to keep all of our readers and the people of the Fredericton area in-the-know about what work is being done in our region and province to enrich the city’s cultural quilt. After writing for The Bruns’ Arts section for just one year, I can say confidently that there are amazing things going on in this city. At times, this work goes underappreciated, whether it be performances, galleries, charity events or any other event designed to show that Frederictonians value the work happening around them.

While I know everyone gets busy, I think it’s important that we make our best attempt to get out and experience what the city has to offer. The only way to appreciate these events is to know about them in the first place, and I promise not only to keep our readers informed, but entertained and passionate about the goings-on in the city next year.

I know that I’m excited to see next year’s lineup of artists, entertainers, performers and presenters, and that if anyone isn’t able to attend those events, they’ll appreciate having a source that emphasizes the importance of them.

Whatever you’re excited for in the upcoming year, we’ll take the time to keep you learning about our community and anything we can say about the events in Fredericton. So, get out and ready to learn, laugh, explore and enjoy what you can.
