The REDS Awards: Day one

In the first of this week’s two REDS Awards galas, held Monday night, Ella Myers, of the women’s rugby team, and Jace Taylor, of the football team, were named UNB REDS teams female and male athletes of the year for 2024-2025.

Myers was a key contributor to the REDS undefeated season and eighth Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association title in nine years while Taylor helped lead UNB to the Atlantic Football League championship game.

“It’s an honour to be named male athlete of the year,” said Taylor. “I’d really like to say thanks to all my teammates and coaches for putting me in a position to have an opportunity to achieve this award.”

“It’s an incredible honour,” said Myers. “There are so many talented people in that room, so I’m lucky to be holding this trophy. It could’ve gone, easily, to anyone else.”

Cassidy Morrison, of the field hockey team, and Keegan Neary, of the men’s rugby team where named REDS teams female and male rookies of the year, while women’s rugby coach Bailey Andrews earned Coach of the Year honours.

Tyler Rose, of the REDS lacrosse team, and Jigisha Kumari, of the women’s tennis team, were presented with Unsung Hero awards, and Emily Prystupa, from the field hockey team, was named the volunteer of the year.

On Tuesday, the REDS will honour members of their U SPORTS teams in a second REDS Awards gala.
