Finally, Bam, a new Korean restaurant, had its grand opening on January 30th in Fredericton at 83 York Street. Bam focuses on authentic Korean cuisine, serving Hang-sang style, in which each meal is served with a variety of side dishes called banchan. The dish aims to enrich culinary traditions, as well as seasoning, adding both flavor and experience. Interestingly, Bam’s banchan changes daily as they post the changes on their Facebook @Bam Restaurant and their Instagram @bam.fredericton.

Although this new restaurant seems to be doing well for itself having 690 followers between both Instagram and Facebook, it resulted in the closing of the restaurant Pita Fresco which had a rating of 4.5 on Restaurantji. Ironically, this place also described itself as having authentic Korean food.

One restaurant-goer expressed their interest in Bam and how:

“The vibe is really great and the employees are nice … I’ve never really had Korean food until now, and I really like it.”

Cultural representation in the foodservice industry is vital for individuals to build communities. Cuisine is an intelligent way of community-building as it is something that connects us all. Not only does food bring people closer to their culture, but it provides an opportunity for others to explore different cultures as well.

If you are wanting to go out and eat during free time, the places above are a great way to explore your palette and have an amazing time.
