MCURL: REDS Drop Bronze Medal Match To Memorial

(LETHBRIDGE, AB) The UNB REDS came up just short in the bronze medal game at the U SPORTS Men’s Curling Championship, in Lethbridge, on Friday.

UNB’s Jamie Stewart rink fell 6-5 to Memorial in the third-place game.

The Sea-Hawks scored one in the first end and stole another single in the second and led 3-1 after four ends.

UNB rallied and scored two in the seventh end, but could only steal a single in the eighth end, making the final 6-5.

“Our goal was to be top four and play on the last day, and we achieved that goal,” said REDS’ head coach Gary Wilson. “I’m very proud of the guys and their effort. They’re already talking about next season.”

Earlier in the day, UNB lost 8-2 to Laurier in the semi-finals.

“We had a strong week, to be able to qualify for the playoffs,” said Stewart. “Unfortunately, we had some key misses in both of today’s matches which really set us behind.”

“We fought until the end,” he added.
